Last January on a job near the ship channel, my cold start sent the ladder swinging into the spud well at 6am. Now I let it idle for the full 20 minutes. Anybody else got a cold weather ritual they picked up the hard way?
How many of us had to learn that lesson with our pride dented? I was the same way, laughing at the old timer who warmed up his rig every single morning, then one cold snap my controls went stiff and I near took out a piling. Nothing like eating crow in front of the whole crew to make you a believer. Now I sit in the cab with my coffee while everything warms up, and I don't care who jokes about it.
