Remember when we ran a whole job off one set of paper charts?
Back in 2003 I was working the shipyard channel near Norfolk, and we lost the GPS for a solid 3 hours. Old timer on the crew just pulled out a worn paper chart and a compass, and we kept dredging like nothing happened. I still carry a laminated copy of the current channel map in the cab, even though my tablet has everything. That day taught me to never fully trust the screen, especially when the tide and traffic are pushing you. Anyone else still keep paper backups, or am I just the old guy now?
