Saw a full dredge setup on the Missouri near Hermann, never seen a barge this compact

Stopped by the river last weekend to watch a crew working a sandbar and noticed they ran a smaller cutterhead than I'm used to, maybe 10 inches instead of the 14 I run. They had a floating line setup with foam collars spaced tighter than mine, like every 8 feet instead of 12, and it seemed to handle the current way better. I asked the operator about it and he said it cuts down on sag when the river drops fast. Has anyone else tried spacing their floats closer like that or is it overkill for smaller jobs?

Man, that's just showing off with extra plastic (and bragging rights)! I guess when the river drops, every inch of sag is a headache you don't need, but my wallet would cry at 8-foot spacing.
