My sister in Portland showed me her 15 minute pasta trick

She was visiting last month and we were both tired after work. She just grabbed a box of spaghetti, a can of crushed tomatoes, and some garlic. While the pasta cooked, she heated the tomatoes with the garlic and a pinch of red pepper flakes. She said, 'The sauce is done when the pasta is.' It was so simple and good. What's your go-to 'pantry pasta' recipe for nights like that?

That's a great weeknight trick, but I always add the garlic to the pan first. You need to cook it in a little oil for a minute to get rid of the raw bite. Just tossing it into the cold tomatoes doesn't let the flavor bloom. My version is almost the same, but I start the garlic in the oil before the tomatoes go in. It makes a big difference.
