A client told me my facial massage was too rushed, and she was totally right

Last week I had a regular come in and she flat out said I was going too fast during the massage part of her facial. I felt defensive at first, but then I watched myself in the mirror during my next session and wow, she was spot on. I was gliding through strokes in like 10 seconds each when they should take closer to 30 seconds for the lymphatic drainage to actually work. So I slowed way down and started doing deeper, more deliberate movements around the jaw and neck area. Now I spend a solid 15 minutes on massage instead of the 7 I was doing before. Has anyone else gotten feedback that made you totally reset your technique? I feel like I needed that slap of reality.

A buddy of mine who does lash lifts got told something similar and it wrecked her in the best way. A client straight up said her mapping was uneven on one eye and she’d never notice if she didn't check with a magnifying mirror. My friend was mad for about an hour, then went home and really looked at her work from the client’s angle. Turns out she was rushing the mapping step to save time and it was making the whole set look off. She spent the next week slowing down and retraining her hand to double check every single lash before gluing. That feedback basically made her a better tech overnight, just sucks that it had to come from a paying client first.

Your friend's lash story hits home - at least we're getting called out on stuff we can actually fix, not like finding out you've been saying a word wrong your whole life. Have you noticed if your hands are more tired now with the slower pace?
