Tried my grandma's old pie crust recipe after finding a hidden note in her cookbook
Honestly, I always thought her recipe was just flour and lard, but I found a note tucked in her 1970s cookbook that said 'add a tablespoon of vinegar for flakiness.' I tried it last week and the crust came out way better than any store-bought one I've ever used. Anyone else got a secret twist they've discovered from an old family recipe?

Saw something about vodka pie crust replacing some water with vodka for extra flakiness. Heard it helps keep the dough from getting tough while it bakes off the alcohol. Might try that with grandma's vinegar trick and see if it doubles down.

Always thought vodka was a gimmick in pie crust. Figured water is water. But your grandma's vinegar trick is legit, so maybe she's onto something. The science makes sense too, less water means less gluten development so dough stays tender. Might try half vodka half water next time, see if it beats my usual butter crust.
