Why does nobody mention how much salt is in those church cookbook recipes
I was flipping through my grandma's old potluck recipe book from 1982 last night, getting ready to make her baked beans for a family thing. Out of curiosity I actually looked up the nutritional numbers on the ingredients list, a full cup of ketchup plus a quarter cup of soy sauce and a whole stick of salted butter. One serving has nearly 1,200 milligrams of sodium. That's over half your daily limit in one scoop of beans. Has anyone else run the numbers on those vintage recipes and been shocked at what's really in them?

And that's not even counting the salt they add "to taste" at the end.

HAHA @mason_barnes you're not wrong. I swear half the reason my blood pressure is high is from all that "just a pinch" extra salt I keep adding. Last night I made pasta and by the time I was done seasoning I might as well have just eaten a spoonful of salt with a side of noodles. My doctor would be SHOCKED.
