Shoutout to finally recycling my pile of old horseshoes

I had a big stack of worn-out shoes taking up space in the shed. Found a local metal shop that accepts them for recycling. Dropped off the whole load yesterday and it cleared out a corner. It's not much, but it feels good to not just toss them. Maybe it inspires someone else to try it too.

Cool that you found a place to take them. Read that old horseshoes are often recycled into new metal products. What did the shop say about the process?

Yeah, I had a bunch from my uncle's farm last year, totally rusted and everything. The local metal shop told me they just toss them in with other scrap steel, which was surprising cause I thought they'd need cleaning. They get melted down and rolled into new bars or sheets, mostly for making new metal items. I saw some turned into simple garden stakes and hooks, which was neat. Anyway, it was pretty straightforward, and felt good to keep them out of the landfill.

Honestly that's so cool they can just melt them down rusty and all. Tbh I dropped off some old metal shelves last month and they said the same thing, it all just goes in the furnace together. Feels way better than just trashing metal for sure.
