I thought those phone camera lens protectors were a total scam.
My friend in Austin showed me his phone after a year with one, and the actual lens underneath was still perfect while the $8 protector was scratched to hell. Anyone have a brand they actually trust for this?

That "scratched to hell" protector is doing its job. It's the same idea as a screen protector, you're just buying a cheap part to wreck instead of the real thing. I see this everywhere now, like those plastic films you peel off new appliances. We're basically adding a sacrificial layer to everything we own. It feels silly but it works.

Calling it a "sacrificial layer" makes it sound way more dramatic than it actually is. It's a piece of plastic, not a life-or-death decision. I get the logic but slapping a protector on a $30 watch face feels like overkill when the whole point is it's cheap and replaceable anyway. People gotta chill with acting like every scratch is a crisis.

Totally! We're living in the age of disposable armor.
