A client in Bend showed me a rock with a perfect crystal inside
I was painting a house there last fall and the homeowner came out with this chunk of basalt. He broke it open with a hammer right there on the driveway and a little geode was inside, full of tiny quartz points. He said, 'You never know what's hiding until you look at the break.' I've been checking rocks differently ever since. Anyone else had a find that changed how you look at ordinary stuff?

Respectfully, I see it the opposite way. @val782, I actually stopped looking at rocks so close after finding a geode because nothing measured up to that first one. The magic for me was in the surprise, and trying to recreate it just made me disappointed in every plain old rock I passed.

That's so cool. I found an arrowhead in a creek bed once, just a random piece of flint that looked like all the others until I turned it over. Now I can't walk past a gravel patch without scanning it, my eyes are just tuned different. It's wild how one little thing can flip a switch in your brain like that.
