I waited five years for a stalactite to grow an inch, and it changed my view on time.

Saw a documentary about cave formation once. They said some of those structures take over a hundred years to grow just the length of a finger. It really makes you realize how short our own timeline is, and how most of what we worry about day to day doesn't matter much in the long run.

Yeah like @wood.zara said about our frantic lives, it's wild that we build whole societies on schedules the planet itself would just ignore.

Saw something about how they date those formations by how slow they grow. The longest ones in deep caves might add less than a human hair's width each year. Puts our whole frantic lives into a stupid kind of focus. We get upset over a slow grocery line or a traffic jam that costs us ten minutes. Meanwhile the cave doesn't care, it's on a clock we can't even see. All our rushing around looks pretty silly next to that.
