My buddy told me to just use vinegar on the calcite in my water softener, but it barely touched the scale after a week.
He swore it would dissolve the buildup, but I had to buy a proper descaler from the hardware store to finally clear the lines, so has anyone found a home remedy that actually works on hard water minerals?

Man, my neighbor tried that citric acid trick and it worked like a charm for his scale.

Oh my gosh, the vinegar police are out in force today! Next they'll tell us we need a fancy bottle of "artisanal" acid for fifty bucks. I bet it comes with a little brush and a certificate. My plain white vinegar is crying in the cabinet.

Seriously? People are buying special acid for a little scale now? Just use some vinegar like a normal person.
