inOverheard a writing teacher say dialogue should sound like a tennis match
...but I was literally just texting my buddy Josh about this exact thing. He's been trying to write a short story and kept complaining his characters sound like robots reading a script. So he tried the whole tennis match thing where one character asks about dinner and the other goes 'did you see that weird bird on the porch?' It actually made the conversation feel way more real, like how people actually talk when they're not trying to get to the point. He said his beta readers finally stopped saying the dialogue felt stiff.

inSerious question: Do you still chase borescope readings or go with feel now?
Used to think the borescope was the ultimate truth, but your ring gap example hit home. I had a similar thing with a Lycoming O-360 where the scope showed a clean cylinder but I felt a scratch with my fingernail that turned into a scored wall after removal. Now I start with a quick flashlight look, then spend real time with my fingers on the ring gaps and plug threads. The scope is still good for valve guides and exhaust ports, but I treat it more like a second opinion than the final say.

inMy grandma used to make soup from literally just bones and scrap veggies, now I buy premade broth like a chump
Freeze your bacon grease in ice cube trays for easy portioning later.

inUpdate: I swapped from using my old adjustable wrench to a proper 10-inch Knipex pliers wrench for a stubborn conduit fitting in a Reno job last month.
Yeah I picked up a Knipex pliers wrench last year after fighting with some seized galvanized pipe fittings and honestly it was night and day. The parallel jaws just grab without that sketchy slipping feeling you get with standard channel locks. Definitely earned its spot in my daily bag.
