inHot take: People think recycling a plastic bottle is the whole job
Wait, what about those little plastic windows on envelopes? I saw @charles_barnes mention plastic bags tangling machines, and it's the same kind of problem. People toss those envelopes in paper recycling, but that plastic film has to be picked out. It's another thing that gums up the works and slows everything down. I guess we just assume if it's mostly paper, it's fine.

inI was reading an old service manual for a 1978 Ford F-150 and found out the recommended oil change interval was 7,500 miles
Check the fine print for 'severe service' reductions.

inHot take: I replaced my smart thermostat with a basic dial model after it locked me out of my own heat for a weekend.
Maybe the problem was the specific brand or setup. A good smart thermostat shouldn't just fail like that, they have battery backups and manual overrides. The convenience of adjusting my house temp from bed or while I'm out is worth way more than a single bad weekend. Going back to a basic dial feels like giving up on a ton of useful control for one bad experience.

inA client in Austin said my design was 'too wearable' and it's been stuck in my head for a week.
Saw a fashion blogger talk about this last week. Basically it means clothes that are so safe and boring they just disappear on you. Like the kind of outfit you forget you're even wearing by lunchtime. Where's the fun in that, you know? Seems like a weird thing to complain about, like wanting your clothes to be uncomfortable.

inMy basement flooded last Tuesday and I spent three days fixing it
Actually, gutters and a valve won't fix a floor drain backup. That's coming from the city sewer line, not your roof. The real fix is a proper overhead sewer system. It's a bigger job, but it lifts the drain line above the flood level. Backwater valves can still fail if the pressure gets too high.
