Had a customer insist I use their 'special' screwdriver set instead of my Wera tools

Remember that sometimes the customer just needs to see their idea fail. Letting them use the toy tool was probably the fastest way to get back to your good gear. It's a frustrating but effective lesson for everyone.

My sister said something about writing prompts that actually made me stop and think

Your sister is totally right about the "thing vs story" difference. I used to do the same thing with my notes app full of random ideas like "a library that burns every sunrise" or "a key that gets heavier when you lie." They just sat there until I asked who the librarian was trying to save, or why someone was carrying that key in the first place. The cool image is just the set dressing for the person freaking out in the middle of it.

I finally saw a climbing line snap on a big oak in Atlanta

A five-eighths inch static rope just snapping under normal load is the kind of thing that ruins your whole week. You check your gear, you trust it, and then it turns out you've been working with hidden faults. Finding two more ropes with core damage after that would make me question every piece of equipment in the truck. It's not just a close call, it's proof the danger is invisible. That garage roof never stood a chance.

Shoutout to the park ranger at Zion who pointed out the cross-bedding in the sandstone

That's a big leap from looking at rocks to finding water. Satellite images can show shapes, but they don't prove anything flowed. It could just be wind patterns or something else entirely. They've been guessing at water on Mars for decades with little real proof. Seems like they're always finding "clues" that never really pan out.

Bought a $120 digital probe thermometer for my smoker and it changed everything

Totally agree, that stall used to make me pull my hair out. I ruined a pork shoulder once by cranking the heat when it got stuck. For cleaning, hot soapy water is good, but I found a little baking soda paste works wonders on any grease or gunk that sticks. Just make sure you never submerge the actual transmitter unit, just the probe end.
