inA farmer in Nebraska told me I was over-torquing his tractor's injector lines and causing his own leaks.
That line about being stubborn about a simple fix hits home. My buddy who runs a small shop fought with a coolant leak on a common engine for weeks. He was sure it was the water pump. A retired mechanic stopped by, took one look, and told him to just replace the cheap o-ring on the thermostat housing first. My friend felt like a fool when that was it, just a dried out ten cent ring.

My uncle used to have this ancient light meter he swore by, the kind with the little dial you had to spin. He'd spend minutes getting the reading just right before even lifting his camera. Now we just point and trust the screen. There's something about that slow, careful process that made each shot feel more important, you know? What's a piece of gear you had to actually learn to use that you kind of miss?

inQuestion about a stuck governor on a 90s Dover in a Philly high-rise
Ever try to check that spot and just end up staring at it? I usually get my phone light in there and a small mirror, but half the time I'm just hoping I don't drop the mirror into the pit. My old foreman used to swear by one of those cheap borescope cameras, but I could never get the dang thing to connect to my phone.
