Question about agency review timelines after a client ghosted me

I was sitting in my home office in Columbus last Tuesday waiting on a client to hop on a call to go over their quarterly review. They never showed. Two hours later I get an email saying they switched agencies because our last review was two weeks late. I had no idea they were even unhappy. Turns out they wanted the review on the first of the month, not the fifteenth like we agreed. Has anyone else had a client walk because of something as simple as a timeline mix up?

The real issue here is probably that timeline mix up was just the excuse, not the real reason they left. Most clients don't walk over one missed date unless they already had one foot out the door... Could be they found someone cheaper or they had a personal connection with the new agency owner. I've seen it happen where a client uses a small mistake to justify a decision they already made in their head. Might be worth checking if they had any other complaints or changes in their business lately... Sometimes these things are just a cover for something else entirely.

Nodding along to this. Had a client pull the exact same move on me last year. One late delivery on a small revision, then they were gone. Turned out the owner of the new agency was their college roommate. Could be they just needed a clean break and your mistake gave them that cover. Worth asking around if anyone saw that connection coming.
