My buddy told me to ignore the hype about local AI models for my small business

He said running something like Llama 3 on my own computer was a waste of time and money for a one-person operation. I listened and kept using cloud tools, but after a $300 monthly bill last quarter, I finally tried a local model. It handles my basic customer email sorting perfectly for zero extra cost. Anyone else switch to a local model and actually have it work out better than expected?

My friend's bakery was getting killed by subscription fees for some fancy inventory app. I told her to just run a small local model on her old office computer. She thought it would be too slow, but it spits out her supply orders and waste reports in seconds. She cut three different tool subscriptions that month. The thing just hums along in the background now.

Exactly! Old hardware can still be a total workhorse.

My old laptop crashed twice trying to run a basic model last month.
