Used to hand write 40 product descriptions a day, now I train a small model on my own old copy
Six months ago my whole Sunday was product descriptions. I run a little shop out of my garage in Tacoma selling hand poured candles and I had about 300 listings to keep fresh. I would sit there with cold coffee and write each one by hand, same 5 bullet points, maybe 6 an hour if I was feeling sharp. Then I saw people talking about fine tuning a small model on your own writing and it clicked. I fed it about 80 of my best old descriptions, the ones that actually sold, and it started spitting out drafts that sounded like me. Not perfect, they still need a trim, but it gets me to 50 drafts in a morning instead of 6. Last weekend I knocked out a whole spring scent line in two hours and only rewrote about a quarter of them. It's the first time in a while I actually felt ahead of the pile instead of buried. What I want to know is how many of you fine tune on your own copy versus just tweaking prompts, because I honestly cannot tell if the fine tune is doing the heavy lifting or if I just got lucky with my samples.
