Had a Cessna 172 with a fuel selector that felt way too stiff on a preflight in Boise last month.

It was a rental bird, N732SP, and the handle wouldn't move without serious force. I debated just logging it as a minor squawk for the next guy, but my gut said to dig deeper. Pulled the access panel and found the selector arm was binding against a cracked mounting bracket. Anyone else had a 'simple' stiff control turn into a bigger find?

Honestly, that sounds like overkill for a rental. You're not a mechanic. A stiff selector is annoying, but you found it moved with force. Logging the squawk was the right call, and the shop could have checked it between rentals. Digging into panels on someone else's plane is asking for trouble if you mess something up.

I read a story once where a stiff selector like @dakotal19 mentioned hid a cracked fuel line.
