Had my torque wrench set to inch-pounds for 2 months, not foot-pounds
I kept chasing a loose main gearbox bolt on a 172 that would back out every 50 hours or so. Pulled my Proto out after the third retorque and noticed the dial was reading 70 inch-pounds when the spec was 70 foot-pounds. Stupid me, I never switched the scale on that old wrench, and it clicked like normal so I trusted it. The giveaway was a tiny wobble I could feel with my fingers on the bolt head during a post-flight walkaround. Not a fun feeling when you realize your 'fix' was just making things worse for two months. Has anyone else had a tool misread that ended up biting them in the butt down the road?

Ugh, that's brutal. I once spent a whole weekend chasing a brake squeal on my truck, turned out I had my caliper tool reading metric when I thought it was standard, so everything was just... off. Felt like such a dummy when I finally figured it out.
