Remember when I used to just guess at torque values by feel?

Used to crank everything down until it felt 'snug' on GA planes, especially on those B-nuts. Switched to using a proper torque wrench with a crowfoot after my IA found a couple over-torqued fittings last spring - has anyone else had a close call that made them change a habit?

Is it really a close call if nobody got hurt though

Totally missing the point, lol. A close call means danger was there even if everyone walked away fine. That's literally the whole definition.

Read a piece in a trade mag about how overtightening B-nuts can crack the flare and cause a leak you won't catch until the plane's in the air. That and seeing a cracked flare on a fuel line in a logbook made me buy a crowsfoot set that same week. You don't need to hurt yourself to learn a better way.
