That DC-9 bleed air check turned into a 45 minute treasure hunt
Last Tuesday over in Hangar 3 at Nashville, I was doing a routine bleed air leak check on an old DC-9 and heard a hiss that sounded like a dying snake. Turns out a mechanic from 2019 had wedged a soda can shim behind the duct clamp to stop a rattle, and it finally corroded through. I had to pull half the cowling and find a replacement clamp from a parts bin in the back, which took forever. Has anyone else found weird stuff like that left behind by previous crews?
