Finally ditched the old phone dialer after 8 years
I used to swear by the ancient Telguard system on my installs until a customer in Austin got a false alarm fine because the cellular backup failed during a thunderstorm. Swapped to a Honeywell LTE kit last month and the self-test feature alone has saved me three return trips already. Anyone else stick with outdated gear way longer than they should have?
The self test feature on those Honeywell modules is actually more of a signal strength check than a true functional test of the LTE connection itself. I learned that the hard way when I had a unit show "all good" on self test but still couldn't send a signal during a storm because the tower was overwhelmed. You have to manually trigger a call to the monitoring station once a month or install a 4G cellular booster if the area has spotty coverage. The old Telguard systems were tanks for sure but the newer gear has quirks you gotta learn like any tool.
Oh man, I feel you! I kept using my flip phone until last year because I was convinced it was "bulletproof" until I dropped it in a puddle and it gave up on life. Guess I'm not the only one who clings to old tech like a security blanket!
