Wait, the old element tested fine the whole time? That would've sent me over the edge after pulling the whole machine apart. I did the exact same thing with my dishwasher last year, bought a new drain pump and it turned out to be a $4 check valve that was clogged with gunk. The worst part is the fuse is right there on the blower housing usually, so you're three hours deep and it was staring at you the whole time.
