Putting wired contacts on a client's sliding door got me some odd looks.
I installed hardwired sensors on a sliding glass door last week (the client has a big metal awning nearby), and the other guys on site thought I was behind the times. But with all the signal problems I've seen with wireless units in that area, I think the reliability is worth the extra work. Do you find wireless always holds up in spots with lots of metal around?

Seriously? They gave you looks for doing it right? I've had wireless sensors totally fail next to metal framing. A wired connection is just solid in those spots.

Metal awnings and roofs are a different beast than just metal door framing. The big sheet of metal overhead can really block or bounce the wireless signal around. I've seen cases where the sensor itself was fine, but the signal couldn't get to the main panel because of a metal carport. What kinds of interference gave you the most trouble, the door material or stuff around it?
