Used to hate wireless sensors until a service call changed my mind

I was all about hardwired everything for years, but last month I had to wire a retrofit into a 1920s building with plaster walls... took me 4 hours just to run one zone. Now I grab those Honeywell 5800s for old houses and save half the day.

5800s drop out on me more than I'd like in basements.

Ugh yeah the basements are brutal. I had the same problem with my 5800s and it drove me nuts. What finally worked was switching the 2.4 GHz channel width from auto to 20 MHz only. Forced them to stay on a narrower band and it made them way more stable downstairs. Also if your router lets you, setting the beacon interval a bit higher helped mine stop dropping out every time I walked into the laundry room.
