Took me 3 days to figure out a simple framing issue that should have been 2 hours
I was working on a basement reno in Calgary last month and kept getting weird gaps where the new walls met the ceiling joists. Spent two whole days checking my measurements, re-squaring everything, even redid a whole section. Turns out the joists weren't level across the room - they dipped by nearly an inch in one spot. Never occurred to me to check that first because the house was built in the 80s. Has anyone else run into a house that was just put together wonky from the start?

Oh man, that is brutal. I feel your pain on this one, three days is a long time to be banging your head against a wall like that. I've been there too, you just assume the house was built square and level, especially if it's not super old. In my experience, you can never trust that stuff, every house has its own little quirks and surprises hiding in the framing. At least now you know for next time, but I bet you were ready to set the place on fire by day two.
