Tried spray foam in my attic and got a surprise raccoon
Sealed up a gap near the eaves in my Calgary house last month. Used the big can from Home Depot. Next morning I hear scratching. Raccoon was trapped inside the roof. Had to cut a hole in the drywall to let it out. So yeah, check for critters before you seal everything up. Anyone else deal with critter problems after insulating?

Wait did you notice any signs of raccoons before you sealed it up like droppings or ripped insulation, or did it just seem like a regular gap to you? I'm asking because I've heard they can squeeze through surprisingly tiny holes and sometimes even nest in attics without making much noise during the day. That must have been a real pain cutting into the drywall, I've had to do similar stuff fixing up old houses and it's never fun patching that back up.

My buddy found a family of raccoons living in his ceiling after ignoring a hole for months. He thought it was just a drafty spot until the scratching noises at 3am got too loud to ignore.
