Warning: I skipped One Piece for 12 years because of the 1000+ episode count, and I was so wrong it hurts
I had this dumb rule in my head that anything over 500 episodes was just a soap opera with swords, so I wrote off One Piece back in 2012 and never looked back. My roommate in Austin finally got me to watch the Baratie arc three weeks ago and I finished it in two nights, then immediately binged up to Enies Lobby. The thing that got me was how the arcs actually build on each other instead of resetting, and now I'm at episode 300 and mad at myself for all the years I spent being smug about it. Turns out my "too long" take was just fear of commitment, not taste. What show did you avoid for years over a dumb reason like episode count or fanbase?
