Got handed a Bosch dishwasher with a blown control board yesterday

Customer in Maple Ridge said it just stopped mid-cycle and the display went dead. Pulled the board and found a burnt spot near the relay, but this model's only three years old. Anyone else seeing these boards fail way too early on newer Bosch units?

Pull the relay off and check the solder joints underneath. I've seen a few of these three-year-old Bosch boards where the relay cracks its own solder over time from heat cycling. If it's just that spot, you can reflow the joint and replace the relay for like five bucks. But if that burn spread to the traces, you're better off swapping the whole board. Happened to me on a 300 series last month where the relay took out the nearby capacitor too.

Whoa, that's a bummer! I've been wondering if Bosch's push to make these things more energy efficient is actually causing some of these failures. The newer ones have those really low water usage cycles which means the motors and relays are cycling on and off way more aggressively to still get the dishes clean. That constant switching could be beating up the solder joints faster than the older models that ran longer, steadier cycles. I had a buddy with a 2022 model where the main relay cooked itself because the software was keeping the heat element pulsing rapidly to maintain temp. Might be worth checking if there's a firmware update or a service bulletin from Bosch about that specific model.
