Hot take: I think we rely too much on those universal washer door lock bypass tools now

I mean, back in the day, maybe 8 years ago, I'd actually diagnose the whole circuit on a front loader that wouldn't start. I'd check the lock itself, the wiring, the main board, the whole deal. Now, the first thing a lot of guys do, myself included, is just pop in that little plastic bypass tool to see if it runs. It saves maybe 20 minutes on a call, but I feel like I'm skipping steps. Maybe it's just me, but has anyone else gone back to doing the full check first, or are we all just reaching for the bypass now?

Totally get that, right? I did the same thing last week and it turned out the main board was fried anyway, so I wasted my own time. Feels like we're training ourselves to take shortcuts that sometimes backfire.

Remember when we all started carrying those universal thermal fuses? Same deal. I used to check the whole heating circuit, but now I just swap the fuse first. Half the time it works, the other half you're digging back in because the real problem is still there. It's a bad habit that feels smart until it isn't.
