Overheard a parts distributor in Columbus say most compressor failures he sees are from start relay issues, not the compressor itself.
That stuck with me because I just replaced a compressor on a 2 year old fridge last month and now I'm wondering if I should have checked the start relay more carefully first, has anyone else wasted time swapping a compressor when it was just the relay?

...and my buddy Mike did the exact same thing last spring. Swapped out the whole compressor on a Samsung fridge, $380 part, then found out later from a repair guy it was just a $12 relay. He still brings it up every time I see him.

That "wasted time swapping a compressor" part really hits home, I've been there myself.
