Magnetic sweeper saved my tailgate, then it failed on me

Last month I was cleaning up after a big oak removal in Austin and my magnetic sweeper stopped picking up nails and staples. The magnet just lost its pull after maybe 18 months of regular use. I dropped it once from the truck bed onto concrete, so that probably cracked the magnet inside. Ended up buying a replacement with a rubber bumper on the bottom for 45 bucks. Has anyone else had those sweepers die from a simple drop, or did I just get a cheap one?
