Saw a review agency's office in Austin with fake client logos in the window

Ha, that reminds me of something worse: those window logos are often pulled straight from stock photo sites. I've seen the exact same made-up "Acme Corp" style logos printed on vinyl at three different storefronts. Some sign shops sell pre-made window wraps with fake brand logos baked in, so the agency might not even know their "clients" are fake. Worth checking if the logos look blurry or generic before you call them out.

My $12 IKEA lamp arm snapped at midnight, so I zip tied it to a broom handle and honestly it works better now

Honestly, a zip tie and a broom handle sounds like a shaky mess to me. One wrong bump and that lamp is face down on the floor. I'd rather just spend ten minutes with a screwdriver and fix the real arm, or grab a cheap clamp lamp that's actually built to hold weight. Yeah it works right now, but you're one tangled cord away from a midnight crash. Sometimes the quick hack just moves the problem to next week.

Something worth thinking about is the air around the forge itself. Coal puts out way more moisture and junk into the steel than people give it credit for, so even if your heat looks right, the metal is soaking up stuff that messes with the quench. Propane runs cleaner so the blade goes into the oil with less crud on the surface. That tiny layer of scale and soot can change how fast the heat leaves the steel, and that is what makes or breaks a thin edge like a 3 day blade. Honestly the fix is probably just going back to the propane for anything you already put that much time into.

Why does nobody talk about how much setup sheets changed the job

We still run paper sheets on the older machines and I keep a laminated one in my box for the mill I run most. The trick that saved me more than once is writing the offsets in pencil and then covering the sheet with clear packing tape, because grease pencil smears the second coolant hits it. Young guys on the newer controls pull everything from the program or a tablet and that works fine until the network goes down or the file gets overwritten. Best setup I have seen is doing both, keep the paper as backup but load the numbers into the control so you are not retyping them every job. Losing that card back in the day meant remeasuring every tool by hand and praying you got it right, so I get why nobody misses it. Just do not trust the digital copy alone, I have watched a guy wipe a program offset and spend two hours chasing his tail. Paper costs nothing and never crashes.
