Just dug up a Victorian bottle dump in my backyard
I started digging a garden bed last Saturday in my 1890s row house in Baltimore and hit a layer of broken glass. After 3 hours of careful digging I pulled out over 40 intact bottles, mostly medicine and soda ones from the 1880s. The weirdest find was a tiny ceramic doll head mixed in with all the glass. Never thought I'd be doing archaeology in my own yard, but has anyone else accidentally uncovered something old while gardening?

Forty bottles is a solid haul. I'd be careful with the doll head though. Old ceramic toys can have lead paint. Had a buddy find a whole clay pipe once while planting a tree. Thing was still intact. He cleaned it up and it's sitting on his mantle now.
