Found a 200 year old mill wheel marker while hiking in Vermont

I was out on the Long Trail near Stowe last weekend and stumbled on this old stone marker I never noticed before. It had a faded carving of a water wheel and the date 1824. Turns out there was a sawmill on that creek back then, and the locals used the marker to measure flood levels. Got me thinking about how much history sits right under our feet in plain sight. Anyone else run into random historical markers or artifacts on a normal hike?

Man I used to think old stuff like that was just boring rocks, but this totally flips that for me. It's wild to think that marker was sitting there through every flood and storm for two centuries while people just walked past it. Now I'm gonna start looking closer at any weird stones or carvings on my own trails, that's for sure.
