I thought our neighborhood art fair was just for tourists, but I was wrong.

I never went to the art fair, thinking it was too crowded and pricey. After a friend took me along, I saw how much work artists put in and got a painting I adore. What community events have you grown to like?

You mentioning the art fair being for tourists... that's a feeling I know too well. It's a pattern where we write off local stuff as not for us, too busy or whatever. I did the same with our farmers market, thought it was just overpriced and trendy. Once I started going regularly, I found the best produce and actually got to know my neighbors. Now I see how these events stitch the community together in quiet ways. Makes me want to give more things a chance instead of judging from afar.

Sometimes those events Really do get taken over by outsiders though. Our street festival used to be fun, now it's just packed with vendors from three states over selling the same stuff. Feels like the local heart got lost when it got popular.
