My dad swore his method for jumpstarting a dead battery was foolproof
He told me to just hook up the cables and rev the engine for 5 minutes, no waiting around. Last week my battery died in the Target parking lot and I followed his advice, ended up frying the alternator fuse. Cost me $120 to fix, has anyone else gotten bad car advice from a parent that backfired?

Did your dad also tell you to hook the cables up in a specific order? My old man gave me the same advice years ago, and I learned the hard way too. I fried a battery once by revving too long without checking if the dead battery could handle the charge. Now I just connect the cables, wait about a minute, then start the dead car. No revving, just let it idle for a few minutes before I drive off. Never had a problem since.

Haha yeah, my dad's advice saved me from crispy hands at least.
