Stop asking vague questions and expecting magic answers

I admin a decent sized forum and I keep seeing people post stuff like "how do I get better at life" or "what's the best way to make money" with zero details. Last week a guy asked "how do I fix my car" and got 40 replies all guessing because he never said the make model or what noise it makes. I spent 2 hours once helping someone who just said "my computer is slow" and it turned out they had 50 browser tabs open and a full hard drive. If you ask a question be specific. Say what you tried already. Give the year and model of your car. Tell us your budget and your location. Otherwise you're just wasting everyone's time including your own. Has anyone else noticed this getting worse lately?

Blame the search engines for this one. People got so used to typing a few words into Google and getting an answer that they forgot how to ask proper questions. They treat forums like a search bar instead of a conversation with real people who need real details. I've seen it with customers too - they'll call me and say "my toilet is broke" and get mad when I ask what exactly it's doing. The same folks who post vague questions online are the ones who get mad when you can't read their mind.
