The night I locked my keys in the car with the engine running in Tulsa

Honestly, I was at a gas station off I-44 around 11pm, just grabbing a soda and a bag of chips. I jumped out to pay at the counter, and the door auto-locked behind me with the car still idling and my phone on the passenger seat. I stood there for a solid minute just staring at the window, trying to process how dumb that was. I ended up calling my buddy from a payphone that still existed inside the station, and he drove 20 miles with a spare key I'd given him ages ago. My option was to break a window and pay $150, or wait 45 minutes, so I waited and ate the warm chips in the cold air. But here's the debate: do you trust a spare key with a friend who lives close, or do you just pay for roadside assistance every year? Has anyone else had this exact panic moment, and what did you choose?

So did your buddy end up making you promise to never leave the car running again, or was he just happy for the excuse to drive across town at midnight? I’m curious if that spare key arrangement actually feels worth it long term, or if you’re now leaning toward just paying for the tow service.
