Unpopular opinion: spray foam insulation is overhyped for most homes

I had my attic done in Austin back in 2021, paid $4,800 for closed cell. Everyone swore it would slash my bills, but my summer cooling costs only dropped about 8 percent. Meanwhile my buddy used fiberglass batts in a similar house and matched that savings for a third of the price. The foam also made it harder to run new wiring later when I added a ceiling fan. Has anyone else felt the ROI just isnt there unless you have a really leaky old place?

Did you check if the foam actually filled every gap up top? A lot of times the savings get killed by air leaks lower down, like around the rim joist or recessed lights. I learned that the hard way too, my attic foam was great but the crawlspace was undoing all the work. Also, running wiring through closed cell is a nightmare, I had to use a fish tape and basically carve channels, so I feel your pain on that ceiling fan.
