The simple corner bead trick that made me feel like an idiot after 6 years

I have been doing drywall for about 6 years now and I always fought with outside corners. I used the paper faced metal bead and I would get air bubbles or it would just not line up right. Last week I was working on a basement in Red Deer and I spent 3 hours trying to get one corner to look decent. My buddy came over and watched me for a minute and said why are you not using a corner float. I thought they were just a gimmick for the big crews. He let me borrow his and I finished that whole room in like 40 minutes. The mud went on smooth and even and I did not have to sand hardly anything. I have been wasting so much time and money on sandpaper. Has anyone else been sleeping on simple tools like that and felt dumb after?

My air fryer caught fire last night and I'm still shaking

I was making frozen chicken wings at 400 degrees and suddenly smoke was pouring out of the back vent. Opened it up to find grease buildup had ignited near the heating coil. Has anyone else had this happen with their air fryer?

This week my left joystick swap turned into a 3 hour nightmare

My buddy's single comment made me stop buying lunch every day

He just said 'you're spending $15 a day on sad sandwiches and calling it convenience.' Did the math. That's $300 a month minimum. Switched to meal prepping Sundays and now I spend $50 a week on groceries. Anyone else have a friend call them out on a dumb money habit?

Had a guy last month in Austin who sat in my chair for 45 minutes asking for a fade, then told me he'd only pay $15 because he 'just wanted a trim' and walked out before I could finish the left side, has anyone else dealt with people who book a full service then try to haggle you down at the chair?

PSA: Don't fall for those fancy self-leveling underlayment claims

I spent $350 on a premium self-leveling underlayment for a 400 square foot living room job six months ago. The stuff was supposed to dry in 2 hours and be ready for tile. Ended up taking almost 5 hours to set, and I still had low spots I had to patch with a second bag later. Has anyone else gotten burned by those quick-dry promises on product labels?

Spent 6 months drawing ceiling plans wrong before a sparky set me straight

I was putting all my ceiling fixtures on the reflected ceiling plan layer but leaving the joists off entirely. Then this old electrician named Ray pointed out I was basically guessing where the wires could run and it explained why my last 3 commercial jobs in downtown Sacramento had so many field changes. Rant: I used to hate using torque screwdrivers on breakers

The same thing happens with ANYTHING that seems optional but saves your bacon. People skip maintenance on their furnace filters until the thing dies in winter, or they don't tighten lug nuts after changing a tire and almost lose a wheel on the highway. It's always the little stuff we blow off that comes back to wreck our weekend. I saw a guy once who never checked his garage door springs, then one snapped and took out his car hood. A $5 part and ten minutes of attention could've stopped all that. We just get lazy because nothing bad happened YET, then we learn the hard way.

Overheard a customer tell his buddy that food truck tacos are 'just a ripoff of Taco Bell'

Honestly what got me was finding a spot that made their consommé from scratch. Took me years of mediocre tacos before I stumbled on this little food truck run by an abuela who basically forced me to dip before eating. Game changer. Now I can't even look at a regular hard shell taco the same way. That rich broth just changes everything about the experience.

Rant: My phone's auto brightness keeps going too dark at night

Doesn't the phone learn your preferences over time anyway? @tyler_hall9 already proved it works, but the setup is buried too deep. They should just pop up a quick calibration screen when you first turn on auto brightness. Two minutes of sliding and you're done.
