I finally saw the Milky Way from a real dark sky site
I drove out to the desert near Joshua Tree last month, and for the first time I could actually see the galactic core with my own eyes. It made me realize why people spend so much on tracking mounts, because my phone camera just couldn't catch it. Anyone have tips for a good starter camera that won't break the bank?

Try a used DSLR maybe.

Yeah, davis.dylan is onto something with the used DSLR idea. I was reading a camera forum last week where a bunch of people said the same thing, that you can get a lot more camera for your money that way. The tech from a few years ago is still really good for learning. Just have to check the shutter count and make sure it wasn't used by a pro who shot a million photos.
