My first stacked photo was garbage for 8 months

I kept shooting single 30 second exposures and wondered why my shots of Andromeda looked so flat and noisy. Last week I finally sat down and watched a tutorial on deep sky stacking, tried 40 frames in DSS, and the difference was night and day. Turns out I was skipping the whole process that makes astrophotography actually work. Has anyone else had a 'why didn't I try this sooner' moment with their processing workflow?

Eight months of single 30 second exposures? Man, that's some serious patience, and I bet your Andromeda shots looked like blurry smudges compared to what you're getting now.
