Rant: Remember when we'd pass around prints of nebula shots at the office?
Back at my old gig, there was this dude who was super into taking pics of the night sky. He'd roll in with these developed photos of nebulae, and we'd all huddle around during coffee breaks. The bosses were cool with it, broke up the monotony. Fast forward to now, with half the team remote, it's just a link in a chat. Sure, it's faster, but I miss the actual paper and the banter that came with it.

Does a print force you into the same moment in a way a screen just can't?

Tell me about it. A link in a chat just gets a quick glance, but holding a print made you stop and actually look at the details together. That whole experience of sharing something real is what's gone.

You know what hit me about your post, @piperw83? It's so true, that feeling of just passing a link around. You might open it for a second alone, but you never really share the moment. Holding an actual photo or a magazine page, you're both stuck in the same spot, pointing things out. It forced you to slow down and talk about what you were seeing. That whole little shared world is just gone now, and it really does leave a hole.
