Fixed a rusted brake line with a $4 coil of copper nickel and a borrowed flare tool
Had a 2004 Silverado come in with a brake line that popped right above the rear axle, fluid everywhere. Customer did not want to pay for a full line replacement, so I tried bending my own from a 25 foot coil of copper nickel I grabbed for $4 at the parts store down on 3rd. Used a borrowed flare tool and took my time with a tubing bender I had in the bottom drawer. Took me about an hour and a half but the flares sealed up dry on the first try. The trick was heating the line just a little with a heat gun before bending so it did not kink at the tight spots. Has anyone else had luck with copper nickel on rusty jobs or do you just run new steel every time?
