Serious question, what's your take on the push for more electric vehicle training?

A new hire fresh from trade school in Phoenix told me he spent more time on EV diagnostics than learning a proper timing belt job, which seems backwards. How are you guys handling the shift in what shops need to know?

Wow, that's actually a smart move by the school! Timing belts are on the way out with so many new engines, but EVs are the future. That new hire is going to be way more valuable knowing high voltage systems inside and out. We need techs who can handle this new tech right now, not just the old stuff.

You're right on the money, @xena_campbell38. My old shop still has me doing timing belts on ten year old cars, feels like I'm fixing a cassette player sometimes. The techs who get trained on EV systems now are gonna be the ones running shops in a few years. Makes me wonder if I need to go back to school myself before I'm totally left behind. It's a huge shift but you gotta keep up or get left fixing lawnmowers.

My cousin's shop in Tucson started a weekly EV study group last year, and now they handle most of the local Tesla warranty work.
