That $40 harbor freight scanner actually diagnosed a ghost code

Spent 2 hours chasing a misfire on a 2015 Silverado last Tuesday, swapped coils, plugs, even checked the injectors... nothing. Buddy said try a cheap scan tool instead of my high-end one, and the data stream showed the crank sensor signal dropping at 2800 rpm only. Who woulda thought a $40 scanner could catch that... it was the tone wheel not the sensor. Anyone else had a cheap tool beat the expensive one for a weird intermittent issue?
