That old timer at the shop was right about brake fluid flushes
I used to think flush intervals were just a money grab until my buddy Dave at Speedy Brake in Houston talked me into doing his Ford F-150 at 60k miles. The fluid came out looking like tea with sediment in the bottom. Sure enough, the master cylinder started leaking 6 months later on a truck that never got flushed. Has anyone else had a customer argue against fluid changes until something fails?

Did Dave ever figure out if the sediment was mostly just water contamination or actual debris from the lines breaking down? I had a similar situation with a Tacoma where the fluid looked like muddy creek water but the owner still swore the flush was a waste of money until the ABS module grenaded a year later. What did the F-150's fluid sample look like under a microscope, or did you just eyeball it?

Man, that is so spot on! My buddy Pete runs a little shop in Odessa and he had this lady with a Camry who refused a flush for like five years. He told her straight up the fluid was dark as motor oil, she said it was fine. Well, her master cylinder went out on the highway six months later and she blamed him for not warning her. The fluid looked like old coffee with grit floating in it when he finally drained it. Always the same story with these folks.
